This morning, I spoke with The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, the Conservative MP for our constituency here in South West Surrey.
I wrote to Jeremy (don't worry, I'm not being overly familiar; he told to call him Jeremy, not Mr Hunt!) a couple of weeks ago to express our concerns about the climate and ecological crises and how the Government's actions are not in line to meet its various climate and net zero pledges and targets. I managed to secure a time for a call and, true to his word, Jeremy called me back this morning exactly when he said he would.
Jeremy was responsive, listened attentively to what I had to say, and he has promised to write a letter on our behalf to Alok Sharma MP, President of COP26, raising our concerns as a small UK business which is determined to do whatever it can to tackle the climate crisis and to be a regenerative business - e.g. one which gives back far more to society and the planet than what it takes from them.
We believe that businesses which say they care about climate change need to use their voices however they can. That's why we have written to Boris Johnson twice so far, have written and now spoken to our local MP, and will continue to write letters and sign relevant petitions as often as required. We are also proud supporters of the Better Business Act Coalition and The Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill Alliance.
Stay tuned to our website and our social media channels so that you're the first to know about any outcomes of our call with Jeremy Hunt this morning and all the other actions we are taking as part of #OperationRegeneration.
** Update - Thursday 1st July **
This morning, I received an email from Jeremy saying that, as promised, he has written to Alok Sharma MP for us, raising our main points and concerns and requesting a meeting. I am very impressed with the speed of his reply and the action he has taken. I will of course keep you all posted as soon as we hear anything else - which will hopefully be a reply from Mr Sharma. Stay tuned!
