Earth Day 2023: The Wrap-Up
Today marks the last day of our Earth Day 2023 campaign. Even though the big day has been and gone, our work is far from over.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22nd to promote environmental awareness and protection. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, and since then, it has become the largest secular observance in the world, with more than 1 billion people taking part in activities and events each year.
This year, the official theme for the day was 'invest in our planet', continuing as the theme from Earth Day 2022. We, along with so many others, know that Earth Day's messaging should be in our minds every single day of the year and not just for 24 hours. To avoid falling into the trap of using this mentality as an excuse to do the bare minimum, we chose to do something a bit different for Earth Day this year.
Instead of a single post from us on the day or a few reposts from official channels here and there, we wanted to continue doing even more than we already do, running a campaign to educate, engage, and inspire our networks and communities. What better way than to explore the official theme of investing in our planet?
Our campaign ran over a total of 11 days with 10 social posts and 5 blogs in a mix of written and visual-based content; generating around 5000+ impressions on LinkedIn alone.
We split our content across our social channels and our site throughout the campaign, so here’s a rundown of everything we did in case you missed any of our posts.
Our Earth Day 2023 campaign
Day 1 - Education, activism, and investing in our planet
We started the campaign off with a bang with Russ’ opening blog announcing the campaign theme, the history behind Earth Day, and our plans to attend The Big One.
Day 2 - What investing in our planet means to us
The Avery & Brown team were handed the mic on the second day and were asked what Earth Day’s theme for 2023, ‘investing in our planet’, meant to them personally.
Day 3 - Finances
In our second blog of the campaign, Beth did a deep dive into green investing and the solutions businesses and individuals have available to them to put their money in all the right places.
Day 4 - Nature
I published a blog on how we can invest in nature, exploring topics like rewilding, reforestation, and pollinators to name a few.
Day 5 - Individual action
Finishing off our streak of blogs, Anna released her blog on how individual action and micro-investments can add up bit by bit to help our environment.
Day 6 - The Big One
Appropriately named, this day was a big one. Our post on Earth Day itself showcased the highlights from Avery & Brown’s trip down to The Big One in Westminster to join Business Declares and Extinction Rebellion with 100,000 others demanding action be made to tackle the climate crisis.

Day 7 - Sunday
Rest day. 😴 I think we all deserved the break.
Day 8 - Community
After another successful People, Planet, Pint hosted by Russ and Tim on April 19th, we thought we’d highlight the importance of community action and involvement and celebrate everyone who made the evening a success.
Day 9 - Lifestyle
Investments can be big or small, and the easiest place to start is with lifestyle. As evidence of this, Tilly experimented with some changes to her lifestyle habits by going vegan over a two week period and showing off some of the tasty looking meals she made.
Day 10 - Activities
Tilly wasn’t the only one to make an investment for Earth Day. In this post, the rest of the Avery & Brown team let us know what they got up to for Earth Day, whether it was litter picking or seed sowing.

Day 11 - Wrap-up
And here we are, on the last day of our campaign already!
The official theme of Earth Day is open to change from year to year and the focus for next year might drift from the worldwide call to invest in our planet. Even so, it shouldn't need to be said that investing in our planet isn't something we should ever stop doing. Whether you're a business, government, or individual; there's so much out there that we can be doing for our planet.
What Will You Do?
What will you be doing to invest in the planet from now until Earth Day 2024? Will you advocate for more climate action? Make your own contribution to environmentalism? Improve your business structure to be more regenerative?
At Avery & Brown, our ongoing journey to being a better business is something we share through #OperationRegeneration and publications like our Impact Report published earlier this year.
If you want to better display your journey through something like an Impact Report and don't know where to start. Get in touch with us today. We'd be more than happy to help.
What can I do right this second?
Ok, so you want to get involved but have no idea where to begin. Why not start by signing these campaigns?:
