How it all began

Having worked with multiple brands on their impact reports, we’ve come to realise that while sustainability reporting is becoming more normalised (good!), the approaches and methodologies used are becoming increasingly varied and complicated (not good). While many of the companies who approach us know they want a report, they aren’t sure what to put in it or even how to get started.

So we decided to put together a checklist, to act as a kind of sustainability audit to help you get to grips with the basics of impact reporting.

How to use the checklist

The checklist is divided into four parts. Part 1 asks you some questions about your company and the next three take a deep dive into the traditional categories of good governance, environmental impact, and social impact. Within these three impact categories you will be given a brief introduction to the topic and two sections to fill out.

We don't claim that this is a comprehensive or tailored reporting tool that will suit every business. However, it will hopefully lift the lid on the mysterious business of impact reporting and give you some inspiration and support in producing your own.

The 3 aims of the checklist

To support businesses who don’t have an in-house sustainability team or a huge budget in understanding how to build a sustainability strategy and reporting framework.

To provide businesses with a solid grasp of what makes a great impact report and explain why all companies should be publishing one.

To encourage businesses to ask difficult questions, set targets, and ultimately become a force for positive change in the lives of all their stakeholders.
